Table Cloth

A table cloth is one of life’s necessities.

Up there with cutlery and plates, it’s one of the must-have items in busy kitchens where eating, chatting and living take place.

The earliest accounts of tablecloths in history were attributed to a poet named Martial in 103 AD, and they were believed to have been used to sop up spills and keep the tables generally clean.

Now, the humble tablecloth has emerged as a kitchen staple, not only protecting tables from spills and scuffs, but transforming dining areas into colourful, homely spaces with so many fabrics and designs to choose from.

An oilcloth tablecloth is generally very hard-wearing. This is because they’re made from 100% high quality cotton, which is then given a hot melt vinyl (PVC) coating to result in a fully waterproof and wipeable fabric.

For this reason, oilcloths are perfect for busy families with a hectic schedule or perhaps primary schools. Children for all their joy can be messy little things, so add much-loved expensive furniture to the mix, it’s not an ideal pairing.

Wayward splashes here and there at dinner time, or crayons, scissors and excitement flying around in class – these are the sort of messy situations that can ruin a table if left uncovered, with gauges and stains causing irreparable damage.

But, with an oil cloth, there’s no need to worry. Spillage? Simply wipe away any mess and your tablecloth will stay as good as new.
