N’er cast a clout till May is out!

This old proverb reminds us how fickle the great British weather can be!

One day we’re basking in glorious hot sunshine; the next, it can be hailing!

The saying essentially tells us not to pack away our winter clothing (clout) until the month of May is out. However, some believe the May reference is actually a direction to wait until the hawthorn tree has finished flowering.

This spell of dry, warm weather is making us feel hopeful that we can finally pack away the woolly jumpers and thick winter coats and prepare to throw open the bi-fold doors, alfresco dining, and BBQs galore!
